City of Costa Mesa Supervisor Survey

City of Costa Mesa

Dear Supervisor/Manager;

As you are aware, an employee who you supervise has requested a work from home accommodation.  The employee was provided with this accommodation on a temporary basis and while we continue in this interactive process in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).

As a number of factors have changed and evolved over the last few months, the City of Costa Mesa is now in the process of re-reviewing all requests for work-from home accommodation to ensure that 1) they remain medically needed, 2) there are no alternative accommodations to support the employee to return to working in City buildings and, 3) the need for the work from home accommodation is still reasonable to provide under FEHA/ADA.  As such, we are in need of your assistance in understanding what aspects of their current COVID assignment they can or cannot fully perform from home.

We use the term “current COVID assignment” to clarify that we are asking you to comment on what the employee would do today, and in the near-term, in their job. These tasks and essential functions may be different than what they did before COVID as City services may be modified or some may be temporarily suspended. For example, in-person meetings, customer/resident contacts may be eliminated temporarily. Therefore, we would not be considering if they can do these things at home, as they would not do these activities even if they were working in a City building.

To support the City to reevaluate request to work from home, we respectfully request that you complete the below survey as soon as possible and not later than Tuesday, November 10, 2020.
